今日はクリスマスの日です。ヨーロッパやイギリスでは交通機関は止まり、お店はすっかりお休みで、みんなお家にいて外は通行人もめっきり少なくなるとっても静かな日です。
さて、昨日ご紹介した半世紀以上もの間多くの歌手に歌われてきたクリスマス・ソングの定番、"The Christmas Song" の解説の続きです！ 季節感溢れるキーワードはクリスマス・カラーである緑色、文法事項は黒色の太字でした。

クリスマスの七面鳥とヤドリギの飾りつけが
季節を明るく盛り上げてくれること
目を輝かせた小さな子供たちは
今晩は寝るのが難しくなるんだ
出だしに引き続いて季節感のあるキーワードがどんどんクリスマスの気分にさせてくれます。誰でも知ってる馴染みのあるものが並べられているあたりに安心感が加わります。クリスマスのお料理は、もちろんローストした七面鳥（クリスマス・ターキー）です！
"tots with their eyes aglow" は、「目を輝かせた子供たち」で、「with ＋名詞＋形容詞」という形なので、"with your eyes closed" だと「目を閉じた状態で」になります。
"find it hard to～" は、「～するのを難しいと感じる」というよく使われる表現です。it が示すのは to 以下になります。
They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly
子供たちは知ってるからね
サンタが今こっちに向かってるって
沢山のおもちゃとお菓子をソリに積んで
そしてすべての母親の子どもたちはこっそり覗くんだ
トナカイが本当に飛べるのか見てみようと
さっきまでは馴染みのあるクリスマスの光景が目にたくさん思い浮かんだところで、ここからは、サンタやトナカイなど実際には目に見えない空想の世界に盛り上がっていきます！
"load" は、TOEICのPart 1 の写真問題によく使われるトラックなどに「荷物を積む」という重要単語で単語帳なんかに載っていますが、 こんなところでお目にかかるとまた別人のようですね！
"every mother's child" 「すべての母の子」という言い方ですが、聖母子を連想させてくれるような、とても愛情に溢れた温かみのある表現がクリスマスらしくて素敵です。
"see if S+V" は、TOEICの中でもよく使われる表現です。「S V かどうか確認する」です。ここでは、とても可愛らしい確認事項になっています！

Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you
そして、私はこのシンプルな言葉を贈りたい
1歳から92歳までの子供たちに
この言葉は長い間、何度も、いろんな言い方で
言われてきたけれど…
メリー・クリスマス・トゥー・ユー
この最後のシンプルな言葉と馴染みのあるメロディーでの "Merry Christmas to you" の部分は心に訴えるような歌唱力が要求される部分だと思います！ナット・キング・コールは素晴らしいですね。
「1歳から92歳までの子供たち」とは、キリスト教的には私たちはみんな「神の子」ということにもつながり、それはクリスマスの精神でもあります。これはキリスト教に馴染みがなければちょっとわかりにくいかもしれませんね。
TOEIC で知っておきたい文法事項としては、"although it has been said many times" が、「何度も言われ続けてきたけれども」という受動態の現在完了の時制になっているという点をあげておきます。この文法から長い時間の流れを感じ取って下さい！

May I just say what a comfort to uncover an individual who actually understands what they're discussing over the internet. You certainly realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
