"I Dreamed a Dream" の絶望の世界

何気なく街中で音楽に出会うことがありますが、つい最近心斎橋を歩いていたら、「夢を見ていたわ・・・」と、「レ・ミゼラブル」"Les Miserables" のサウンド・トラックの一つ、"I Dreamed a Dream" の日本語の歌が流れていたので思わず足を止めて聞いてしまいました。日本語版もあるんだ、そう思っていたら、ちょうど先週、歌手の華原朋美が"I Dreamed a Dream" のシングル「夢破れて」をリリースしたということなので、それだったのかもしれません。

映画では、この歌はファンテーンが子供を育てるお金のため、売春婦に身を落とすことになり、地獄の世界を経験した絶望の中で歌われます。今回、最新版「レ・ミゼラブル」を映画館で見た時にわたしが涙したのはこの歌が歌われたシーンでした。

アン・ハサウェイはファンテーン役でアカデミー賞の助演女優賞を取りましたが、その時の受賞スピーチでその悲劇についてこのように言っています。

"Here's hoping that someday in the not too distant future the misfortunes of Fantine will only be found in stories and never in real life."

いつかそう遠くない将来、ファンテーンの不幸な話が物語の世界だけのもので、現実世界のものではなくなることを望んでいます。

ここでポイントです： 

「愛が永遠に死なないものと夢見ていたわ。」は、日本人にもわかりやすいですが、「神様は許してくれるものと夢見ていた。」はピンとこないかもしれません。クリスチャンでなくても私のようにキリスト教の世界に馴染みがあれば、世の終わりぐらい辛く絶望的な歌詞です。

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder

ミュージカルって音楽がつくので雰囲気は普通の映画のようにリアルではないのですが、音楽で感情が揺さぶられて、知ってるシーンなのに何度見ても涙がこぼれてしまうんですよね。もう今回は泣くはずはない！と思ってもだめなんですね・・・。
